I have many Photographs of Glencoe but I do enjoy this
photograph, where the waters of Loch Leven reflect the
snow covered summits of the Pap of Glencoe and Bidean
nam Bian 'The Peak Of The Bens' on a late February afternoon.
Glen Coe and its landscape is a popular area for the professional
landscape photographer as well as the tourist. The art
of landscape photography in Scotland is made a little
easier with the quality of the ever changing light.
Bidean is the highest mountain in Argyll and a most enjoyable
hill to climb both in summer and winter. It is a complex
mountain and its full beauty is difficult to appreciate
as it is guarded by the Three Sisters of Glencoe , which
are part of its huge massif, but you get a great view
of it freom the village of Onich.
I have already mentioned the Lost Valley of Glen Coe,
in the copy which accompanies the Glen Etive photograph,
but I do not apologise for doing so again, this is my
favourite way to the summit of Bidean. To sleep in this
valley on a summers night is heavenly, a 'wee dram' and
the stars above, incidentally you can dispense with carrying
a tent as there are a few caves which could provide a
perfect bivouac, dry the last time I looked. The extra
room in the sac would leave space for another 'wee dram'
......... possibly.
The history of Glen Coe is well known and documented
, so I will leave that to the experts, a new Visitor Centre
provides information on the history and the surrounding
area.
Glen Coe is a mecca for the serious climber both in summer
and winter , but there is plenty of interesting and enjoyable
walking for those who prefer the lower levels.
