photographs of Ardgour - Ardnamurchan,

Pictures of Scotland.
"The tendency nowadays to wander in wildernesses is delightful to see. Thousands of tired, nerve shaken, over civilised people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home"

John Muir (1901)

Ardgour and Ardnamurchan.

Ref No: 120

Pictures of Scotland - Ardgour - Ardnamurchan - Travel through Ardgour, Ardnamurchan and Morven and discover one of the remotest parts of Scotland. The picture shows the sun setting over Loch Linnhe and the hills of Ardgour, this sunset seems to welcome the viewer to one of Scotland's most magical areas. An area of wild beauty, the highland scenery is dramatic and the coastline is covered in white sandy beaches, plenty opportunity for great pictures of Scotland. Ardnamurchan is the most westerly point on the Scottish mainland. If you wish to experience peace and tranquility, then take the Corran Ferry across Loch Linnhe to Ardgour travel on through some glorious country to Morven and Ardnamurchan and find a warm welcome throughout this area. Do not forget the camera for these great Scotland pictures.

Ardgour it's name in the Gaelic translates as "Height Of The Goat" was part of the ancient trade route to the Inner Hebrides, the original "Road To The Isles" Strontian which sits on the shores of Loch Sunart, gave its name to the element strontium which was found in the lead mines of the area, it is the largest of the villages in the region.

Lochaline in Morven is another point worth visiting, it sits on the Sound of Mull, you can take a ferry from here to the Isle of Mull. The ruins of the 14th Century Ardtornish Castle are nearby on Loch Aline. For more details of the area take a look at the photograph of Corran Ferry (ref no 123)

The map below shows the area. The yellow circle on the right near the top of the map, is Fort William, the Corran Ferry is at the narrowest part of Loch Linnhe about eight miles south of Fort William and Ardgour is on the other side. The A861 takes you out to Ardnamurchan whilst the A884 takes you to Lochaline, you can see how close it is to the Isle of Mull
