Photo travelogue of Scotland.

"The land is our birthright, even as the air, the light of the sun and the water belong to us as our birthright."

Rev. Donald MacCallum 1849-1929 Church of Scotland minister.

Early morning on Loch Assynt, Sutherland.

Ref No:

If you have looked at the Photographs of Scotland which I have included in the gallery of photographs so far, I'm sure you will have noticed how much I love Scotland and the Assynt area in Sutherland in particular. Tour Assynt and you will soon realise this is magical country and contains some of the most spectacular scenery in Scotland. The landscape is remote, powerful, wild and awesome, a landscape much loved by the photographer and artist, the walker and climber. Assynt and Coigach which lies a short distance south are officially designated as national scenic areas, but it is not only the moors and mountains which attract the visitor, it also has the most marvellous coastline. Clear waters, massive beaches and sand dunes are popular with the water sports enthusiast and families. One of my favourites is at Achmelvich, not that far from Lochinver off the B869, where there are facilities for the camper and caravaner. Clashnessie and Clachtoll are also worthy of a mention whilst to the south, Achnahaird in Coigach has to be seen to be believed. The Highland Council has a free Ranger service based at the Visitor Centre in Lochinver. Each year they organise an extensive programme of walks taking in the attractions of the area, including the coast line and the Bone Caves at Inchnadamph.

Make sure that your itinerary includes Assynt and Coigach when you visit Scotland. More information and history of this part of North West Sutherland can be found in the text which accompanies the other photographs of the area.
