"Oh! Rowan Tree, Oh! Rowan Tree, thou'lt aye be dear to me, Intwined thou art wi' mony ties o' hame and infancy."

Lady Nairne (1746 - 1845 )

Badachro near Gairloch, Wester Ross.

Ref No: 153

Photographs of Badachro Scotland - Badachro. A picture postcard of one of Scotlands hidden gems. I have to say this is not what I consider to be a landscape photograph of Scotland, but I include it since Badachro is one of my favourite villages on the West Coast. Situated just south of Gairloch in Wester Ross it really is an ideal spot to get away from it all. Nestled on the south shore of Loch Gairloch, this picturesque village is a haven for the yachtsman when the weather turns nasty. The village Inn which provides food and accomodation, sits on the edge of the harbour and is a grand spot to sit and watch the comings and goings at the jetty.

For a family holiday Badachro and the surrounding area would be hard to beat. A wealth of activities await the visitor. There are wonderful beaches like those at nearby Red Point, which has as the name suggests, the reddest sand you will see.The high sand dunes and clean waters, will keep the children happy for hours and if you are still there late into the evening, you can watch the sun set over the Western Isles. Walks for all ages and all levels of fitness can be enjoyed in the area If you are reasonably fit, take a walk form Red Point (you can park your car at the viewpoint near the beach) south to Lower Diabeg on the shores of Loch Torridon, a grand day following the coast all the way. If you can arrange to be met by car at Diabeg then even better, you will then be able to sit back and enjoy a magnificent drive home. Absorb the spectacular scenery as you pass along the shoreline of Upper Loch Torridon, then past Liathach and Beinn Eighe to Loch Maree and Suilven. Now on the home straight and a well deserved pint at the Badachro Inn. If all that seems to energetic, then explore by car. Take a drive to the famous Inverewe Gardens at Poolewe, or a run out to Rubha Reidh lighthouse where you can enjoy views over the Minch, to the Outer Hebrides. Then there are the fishing trips and sea life tours where you can see porpoises, dolphins, seals and all kinds of sea birds. A fortnight won't seem long enough to pack in everything on offer, but remember why you came, take some time out to enjoy the main attraction of Badachro, the peace and tranquility. Go on spoil yourself, visit Badachro and Gairloch.
