Photographs of Glasgow Scotland - A gallery showing
the people of Glasgow Scotland, at the famous Glasgow Barras and
Paddys Market - The Glaswegians - Smiling - At home in their beloved
City of Glasgow in the early seventies.
Having spent over forty years as a newspaper photographer
you will understand my love of photo journalism. The great strength
of photography is in capturing the moment." Le moment decisif"
is how Henri Cartier - Bresson, one of the legends of photo journalism
described it. The photographs in the gallery have never been published
or seen by the public. They were taken by myself and two colleagues
from the Daily Record Scotland, both of whom shared my passion
for photo journalism. I hope you enjoy these moments captured
by our cameras in the streets of Glasgow, all those years ago.
People are a great subject for the camera, especially
when they are unaware they are being photographed and when they
do spot the camera pointing at them, the different reactions are
facinating. Some laugh, some stick their tongue out at you, others
ham it up and some threaten you, so do not get caught.
My thanks to Dougie Salteri now Picture Editor
of the "Herald" in Glasgow and my nomadic pal Bobby
Hotchkiss.
